Scholar Dr. Ali Mazrui Will Lecture Oct. 2

Distinguished
African scholar Dr. Ali Mazrui will deliver the first annual
African Studies lecture this week at the University of Memphis.
Mazrui will discuss "The African Predicament: Legacy
of Partition, Lure of Reparations" at 7 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 2, in the Fogelman Executive Center, Room 136. The lecture,
which is free and open to the public, will be followed by
a reception.
Born
in Kenya, Mazrui is an internationally-known author of more
than 20 books and hundreds of journal articles. He is the
creator of the acclaimed television series The Africans: A
Triple Heritage, produced by the BBC and PBS in association
with the Nigerian Television Authority. His research interests
include African politics, international political culture,
political Islam, and North-South relations.
Mazrui
is Albert Schweitzer professor in the humanities and director
of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies at Binghamton
University, State University of New York.
The

Studies program with support from the African Student Association,
International Studies and the Academic Enrichment Fund.
