The
2004 University of Memphis Works-in-Progress Symposium (WIPS)
will be held Friday, Nov. 5, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the University
Center, Rooms 310 F, G, H and J. This is an opportunity for
undergraduates to present research projects in their early
stages. Each student will give a 15-minute presentation followed
by a five-minute question-and-answer period.
There
are several requirements for students participating in WIPS:
the work presented must be a project that will be fully developed
and presentable by April 2005; students must have permission
from their faculty mentor; and students must provide an abstract
and prospectus with the WIPS application.
Presentations
will be evaluated by a faculty member, who will offer feedback
for students planning to attend the National Conference on
Undergraduate Research (NCUR). WIPS and NCUR are not competitions;
each student is evaluated on individual performance.
Applications
for WIPS are available from the University Honors Program
office, Scates Hall room 204. Applications must be submitted
to the Honors Program office no later than 4:30 p.m. Oct.
22.
