U of M Women?s History Month Opens With Panel Discussion March 3

The University of Memphis will kick off its celebration of Women’s History Month with a panel discussion and reception Thursday, March 3, at 4 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre. The discussion, “Women Working in Non-Traditional Roles,” will be moderated by U of M President Shirley Raines. The event is free and open to the public; a reception will follow the program.

Panelists will include Tomeka Hart, an attorney and member of the Memphis City School Board; the Rev. Rebekah Jordan, a United Methodist minister and executive director of the Mid-South Interfaith Network for Economic Justice; Dr. Nancy Hardt, director of the Institute for Women’s Health at University of Tennessee Health Science Center; and Capt. June Viviano, a pilot with FedEx Express

March 14 - Monday Night at the Movies: “Paving the Way,” University Center Room 218, 7 p.m.

March 15 - Women and Violence - PCU, University Center Faulkner Lounge, 1 p.m.

March 17 - Dr. Ladrica Menson-Furr: Presentation on Zora Neale Hurston, McWherter Library Room 226, noon

March 17 - Foreign Film: “Maria Full of Grace,” Rose Theater, 8 p.m.

March 20 - Women of Achievement Award Celebration, U of M Holiday Inn, 4 p.m.

March 21 - Monday Night at the Movies: “Half the People,” University Center Room 218, 7 p.m.

March 22 - Reading in the Rotunda: “Examining Women’s Lives” McWherter Library, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

March 23 - “Our Mothers’ War,” lecture by author Emily Yellin, McWherter Library Room 226, noon

March 24 - Open Plenary for Trading Justice: NAFTA’s New Links and Conflicts, Fogelman Executive Center, 7 p.m.

March 28 - Monday Night at the Movies: “Intolerable Burden” University Center Room 218, 7 p.m.

March 31 - Women’s Research Forum, University Center Faculty Lounge, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
