Museum Presents "Hallelujah Sundays"

The
Art Museum at the University of Memphis has organized an afternoon
concert series entitled Hallelujah Sundays with local choirs
scheduled to perform at the art exhibition Coming Home:
Self-Taught Artists, the Bible and the American South.
On
Sunday, August 15, The New Olivet Sanctuary Choir will perform
at 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 pm in the lobby of the Communication
and Fine Arts Building on the University of Memphis campus.
The Art Museum exhibition Coming Home will be open
from 2 to 5 p.m. for viewing between the choir's performances.
The
New Olivet Sanctuary Choir, under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth
T. Whalum, Jr., has performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra,
recorded with local artists and has appeared and performed
with the world-renowned jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum. They
have opened for great gospel artists John P. Lee and CeCe
Winans and recently won the Memphis Bridge Award for the Best
Church Choir of the Year.
The
New Olivet Youth Choir will perform at 2:30 p.m. and 3:30
p.m. on Sunday, September 19. The Youth Choir has been together
since 1995 and performed in cities all across the U.S. and
Canada including Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco and Toronto.
The
final performance in the Hallelujah Sunday series will be
a performance by the University of Memphis Gospel Choir on
Sunday, October 17. The University of Memphis Gospel Choir
is a student organization aimed at uniting the campus through
song.
All
performances and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
